Concurrently with the Western battles of World War II, the Chinese and Japanese had been at war with each other since 1937. Beginning in 1940 the United States began providing monetary, and lend-lease support to the Chinese government of general Chiang Kai-shek. Here, a post-war image shows how US involvement helped strengthen the Chinese military, and enabled them to defeat their enemy. Included amongst the twelve vignettes are one of the formal surrender of the Japanese in the Chinese Theatre on September 9, 1945, and another on the USS Missouri on September 2, 1945. rare pro-American propaganda from within China.
